Haze lingers in Beijing as fog blankets parts of north China

Hazy weather in Beijing is expected to worsen in other parts of north China, with poor atmospheric diffusion being blamed for the smog. Visibility in Beijing dropped to less than 500 meters, causing concern among tourists and residents. Heavy winter fog in Hebei province and Tianjin city further reduced visibility to less than 50 meters. The environment ministry predicts moderate to heavy air pollution until Thursday. Unusually warm temperatures, are expected to persist until Thursday.
